History of RebiSmart™
RebiSmart™ was developed based on the award-winning easypod™ device.
easypod™ was designed in user trial with patients and healthcare professionals as part of a global collaboration and is currently available in 31 countries.
easypod™ is a handheld electronic auto-injector for administering growth hormone to children with growth hormone deficiency. It was developed by Merck Serono in response to unmet needs of children who were using traditional auto/pen injectors, including:
- injection comfort
- Good Safety profile
- ease-of-use and
- compliance
easypod™ is currently available in 31 countries.
easypod™ user trial
The development of easypod™ was the result of a pivotal user trial over six months. The trial involved 35 children and 2 adults across 10 clinics in one country (Sweden). Outcome of the study showed that the majority of patients preferred easypod™, rather than their previous injection device. Of the 34 patients who completed the trial, 29 patients wanted to continue their treatment with easypod™. Furthermore, patients gave easypod™ an average rating of 9.79/10 for reliability and 9.31/10 for ease of use.1easypod™ Award winning device
easypod™ has since won numerous awards (listed below). Nominated for its innovative technology, easypod™ has answered the need for a device that provides simple everyday use while providing an accurate dosing history.
“Diario Médico”, a leading Spanish healthcare journal, awarded easypod™ “Best Idea” in the Research and Pharmacology category in 2007. Each year “Diario Médico” acknowledges initiatives which benefit doctors, patients and medical institutions.
The Medical Design Excellence Awards® presented easypod™ with a Gold Medal in 2007. The MDEA competition is open to companies and individuals involved in the design, engineering, manufacture, or distribution of finished medical devices or medical packaging.
The Computerworld Honors Program recognised easypod™ as a Gold Medal Laureate winner in 2008. The Computerworld Honors Leadership Awards honor those who have been instrumental in revolutionizing the use of information technology.
EMD Serono was named a Finalist for a 2008 Stevie® Award for easypod™ in the “Most Innovative Company” category. The award recognises the two most important functions in business: creating and keeping customers.
